Dear Parent, This is to let you know that the grades for the Holiday Work and the results of the Mock Examinations are now available on MyGrade. Week 1 is the grade for the work that was completed over the Easter break and submitted on the first day back. Week 2 gives you the results of the Mock Examinations. GCSE results are listed as a, b, c, d, e, f where a, b and c are passes. The AS and A2 results are expressed as a percentage – 40% is a pass with 40% - 49% equivalent to a Grade E, 50% - 59% a Grade D, 60% - 69% a Grade C, 70% -79% a Grade B and 80%+ an A. To secure an A* at A-level, the candidate must have secured an A Grade at AS and more than 90% in the A2 level papers. If you would like to discuss the results or grades in detail, please do ring your Housemaster. The remainder of the term promises to be very busy with the whole school preparing for examinations. May I remind you that we will be teaching on May 31, the Bank Holiday, and that all students should be in school as usual. I would also ask for your support when it comes to requests for study leave. We do not allow students time away from school to study on their own during the examination period and it would avoid any awkwardness if you did not ask. We work very closely with the students during this period, honing their techniques and skills and making sure they are learning the right material. In the past we have often covered questions which have appeared in the real examination! A2 and GCSE students may leave once their examinations are over, but are welcome to stay if they wish. AS students who finish their examinations before June 14 are welcome to a few days relaxing at home before we begin the A2 courses on June 14. All AS students must be in school during this period - June 14 until the end of term. Work experience and university visits should be organised before June 14 and if that is not possible, during the holidays. The examination results for AS and A2 will be available from the school on the morning of August 19th; and the GCSE results should be available on the morning of August 24th. Parents can see the results from the password protected MyGrade site; students from the password protected MyResults site; both can be found from www.hurtwood.net David Broome Deputy Headmaster and Director of Studies
The small print Many things can go wrong with this system: the exam boards do not always make the full set of results available to the school in good time, and the definitive paper results may not be available until later; the school relies on communication links which are not always robust in rural areas; failures in the examination administration system may require us to enter results by hand; and the computer you use to access the website may not have the components you need for remote access. We will use our best efforts to provide results as described here, but please remember that this facility is in addition to other ways of getting results to you. Should there be any unforeseen circumstances, our priority in the summer will be to work with the exam boards, our service providers and the universities and colleges to obtain final grades and confirm Higher Education places for our student leavers. |
